Bajaj Finance Q2 Profit Jumps 29% to Rs 6,367 Crore

Bajaj Finance Q2 results delivered a strong quarter for India's largest non-banking finance company, with consolidated net profit rising 29 per cent year on year to Rs 6,367 crore in the September quarter, compared with Rs 4,948 crore a year earlier. The lender announced the figures on Monday after market hours, rounding off a quarter marked by robust loan growth, healthy customer additions and stable asset quality. Net interest income climbed 24 per cent to Rs 13,335 crore from Rs 10,785 crore in the year-ago period, the company said in its exchange filing. Net total income rose 23 per cent to Rs 15,974 crore from Rs 12,982 crore.

How Bajaj Finance Q2 net profit beat estimates

The Bajaj Finance Q2 net profit growth of 29 per cent was supported by strong core income and controlled operating costs. Pre-provisioning operating profit increased 23 per cent to Rs 10,699 crore from Rs 8,685 crore a year earlier. Operating expenses as a proportion of net total income stood at 33 per cent, marginally lower than 33.1 per cent in the year-ago quarter, pointing to improved operating leverage. Profit before tax rose 29 per cent to Rs 8,537 crore from Rs 6,608 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Analysts tracking Bajaj Finance results had expected steady growth, and the latest Bajaj Finance results came in broadly ahead of consensus on most operating parameters.

Bajaj Finance AUM grows 26% to Rs 5.85 lakh crore

Assets under management grew 26 per cent year on year to Rs 5.85 lakh crore as of September 30, from Rs 4.62 lakh crore a year earlier, the company reported. The Bajaj Finance AUM expanded by Rs 37,680 crore during the quarter alone, reflecting broad-based growth across consumer, SME and commercial lending segments. The non-banking financial company booked 13.45 million new loans in the quarter, up 11 per cent from 12.17 million in the corresponding period last year. Its customer franchise grew 16 per cent year on year to 128.85 million as of September 30, with 4.42 million new customers added during the quarter.

Bajaj Finance Q2 asset quality stays resilient

The Bajaj Finance Q2 performance was also underpinned by stable asset quality. Loan losses and provisions rose to Rs 2,166 crore from Rs 2,080 crore a year earlier, but the increase was driven by a prudent management and macroeconomic provision of Rs 337 crore. Excluding that additional provision, loan losses and provisions actually declined 12 per cent to Rs 1,829 crore. The annualised ratio of loan losses and provisions to average assets under finance stood at 1.56 per cent, compared with 1.88 per cent a year earlier. Excluding the additional provision, the ratio improved further to 1.32 per cent, signalling genuine credit cost improvement in the underlying book.

Management provision cushions macro risks

Excluding the Rs 337 crore management and macroeconomic overlay, profit before tax grew 34 per cent to Rs 8,874 crore, while net profit before the additional provision stood at Rs 6,619 crore, up 34 per cent year on year. The Bajaj Finance Q2 results show that even on an adjusted basis the lender delivered accelerating earnings momentum. Management has historically maintained such prudential buffers during periods of uncertainty, and the provisioning stance suggests a cautious approach to the evolving credit cycle. The company's disclosures indicate that the core portfolio continues to perform within expected loss parameters.

What the Bajaj Finance Q2 numbers mean for investors

The latest Bajaj Finance Q2 results reinforce the lender's position as the bellwether of India's NBFC sector, setting the tone for NBFC earnings this season. With 26 per cent AUM growth, 29 per cent net profit growth and double-digit loan bookings, the franchise continues to scale profitably. The improvement in the cost-to-income profile and lower underlying credit costs give the company room to sustain growth even as competition intensifies. Bajaj Finance results in recent quarters have consistently outpaced the broader NBFC industry, and the September quarter keeps that record intact. Investors will now watch for management commentary on loan growth guidance, digital initiatives and margin trends in the second half of the fiscal year, as NBFC earnings from peers roll in over the coming weeks. The Bajaj Finance Q2 numbers set a high bar for the rest of the NBFC sector.
