Paris: The Changan Paris Motor Show presence at Mondial de l'Auto 2026 underlined just how aggressively China's state-owned carmakers are chasing global growth. Hosting a launch event under the theme "Firmly Rooted, Growing Together", Changan Automobile brought its full global product line-up to the French capital and used the stage to deepen its long-term push into Latin America — one of the key battlegrounds of its Vast Ocean Plan. The headline act was the global premiere of the AVATR CONCEPT T09, spearheading the premium brand's move upmarket. Alongside it, Changan confirmed that its DEEPAL and AVATR brands are advancing their Latin American rollout as planned, while football legend Luís Figo was appointed Changan Product Experience Ambassador to front brand communications globally and across the region. ## Changan Paris Motor Show: the Latin America playbook The Changan Paris Motor Show announcements were built around a simple principle the company calls "In Latin America, For Latin America". Rather than treating the region as an export dumping ground, Changan says it is accelerating the shift from shipping finished cars to establishing industrial roots — local partnerships, localised services and, over time, local production capacity. The product cadence shown at the Changan Paris Motor Show is already moving. The CHANGAN CS55 PLUS BlueCore HEV, which uses the iDE-H hybrid architecture and needs no external charging, will be progressively introduced across Latin American markets. The NEVO Q05, a family electric SUV that is among China's best sellers, has launched in Colombia and Uruguay, with Ecuador, Chile and Peru next on the list. The DEEPAL S05 and S07 will expand across the region, while the new flagship concept signals where the premium end of the Changan Paris Motor Show line-up is heading. ## Changan Latin America expansion: sales and scale The Changan Latin America expansion is backed by serious volume. In 2025 the group sold 2.913 million vehicles worldwide, up 8.5 per cent year on year, including 1.109 million new energy vehicles — up 51 per cent — and 637,000 vehicles overseas, up 18.9 per cent. That overseas figure is the engine of the company's next phase. Looking ahead, Changan is upgrading its Vast Ocean Plan with more than 40 all-new global models in the pipeline and overseas production capacity targeted above 800,000 units. The company draws on an R&D system spread across five countries and nine centres, and applies uniform global validation standards to every market it enters. For the Changan Latin America expansion, the softer side of the business matters too: its withU customer-care brand covers after-sales, maintenance, roadside assistance and service networks, with pledged improvements to spare-parts supply across the region. ## Changan Paris Motor Show: the premium spearhead The AVATR Concept T09 is the clearest signal of intent. As a global premiere at one of the world's leading motor shows, the concept is designed to pull the AVATR brand — and by extension Changan — into premium territory. The concept reveal also fits a pattern seen across Chinese manufacturers: using flagship concepts to reset brand perception in markets where buyers still associate Chinese cars with budget motoring. Whether Latin American consumers buy the premium pitch will depend on pricing and dealer experience, but the hardware shown at the Changan Paris Motor Show suggests Changan is serious about the attempt. ## Changan Vast Ocean Plan: what it means for India For Indian observers, the Changan Vast Ocean Plan is worth watching even though the company has no announced India programme. Chinese brands are expanding aggressively across emerging markets, and Latin America is often the proving ground for strategies later aimed at regions like South Asia and Africa. The emphasis on localisation — "In Latin America, For Latin America" — mirrors the playbook that won Japanese and Korean carmakers their strong positions in India. The Changan Paris Motor Show showing also highlights the competitive pressure building on India's own exporters. As Changan scales overseas production past 800,000 units and fields 40-plus new global models, the contest for emerging-market buyers will intensify. For now, the Changan Paris Motor Show belonged to the company's global ambitions — and Latin America is where those ambitions will be tested first.
