Peugeot E-T16 Concept Wins Best Concept Car in Paris

Paris: The Peugeot E-T16 concept has been named the best concept car of the 2026 Paris Motor Show by the Association of Automotive and Motorcycle Media (AMAM), capping a triumphant home-turf appearance for the French brand. The award recognises what the jury called a visionary vehicle — one that reinterprets an icon of Peugeot's past while projecting the marque into an electric, high-performance future. Unveiled at Mondial de l'Auto 2026, the Peugeot E-T16 concept is a three-motor electric "hyperhatch" that pays tribute to the legendary 205 T16 on the 40th anniversary of its back-to-back World Rally Championship titles. With a claimed 816 hp, a 2.5-second sprint to 100 km/h and a 300 km/h top speed, it is as much a technological showcase as a design statement. ## Peugeot E-T16 concept: a rally legend reborn The Peugeot E-T16 concept wears its inspiration openly. Inflated wheel arches, a deeply sculpted bonnet, oversized front intakes and side intakes aft of the doors all echo the Group B monster that carried Timo Salonen and Juha Kankkunen to drivers' titles in 1985 and 1986. Even the rear-opening clamshell returns — only now it reveals suspension hardware and electric motors rather than a mid-mounted four-cylinder. Peugeot's designers have translated those cues through a radically modern lens: full-width three-claw lighting signatures front and rear, an illuminated red accent sweeping around the car, and proportions that the AMAM jury praised for blending heritage with emotion. The Peugeot E-T16 concept, the association said, embodies the perfect mix of heritage, emotion and technological excellence. ## 2026 Paris Motor Show: the numbers behind the hype The jury was not swayed by styling alone. The Peugeot E-T16 concept's specification sheet reads like a supercar's: three electric motors developed by Peugeot Sport — two on the rear axle, one at the front — delivering around 816 hp to all four wheels, an 85 kWh battery good for a claimed 400 km of WLTP range, and 10-to-80 per cent charging in under 15 minutes. Particularly unusual for a concept is the engineering detail behind the Peugeot E-T16 concept that Peugeot disclosed: 380 mm brakes, 275 mm front and 315 mm rear Michelin tyres, and a battery cooled through its side walls rather than just its base — a system the company says allows three full-power laps of the Nürburgring without overheating. The car is also steer-by-wire, previewing the Hypersquare steering controller destined for production Peugeots. The show has hosted many outlandish concepts over the years, but few have arrived with this level of technical substance. ## Peugeot E-T16 concept: what the AMAM award signals The AMAM best concept car prize, voted by automotive and motorcycle journalists, carries weight precisely because it comes from the media rather than the industry. For Peugeot, winning on home soil at the Mondial de l'Auto validates the "Feline Future" design language that will define its next generation of cars — and signals that the brand's electric pivot has found its emotional register. The AMAM best concept car verdict also sharpens a growing rivalry. Across the aisle in Paris, Renault's reborn performance icons have been drawing crowds of their own, and the E-T16's claimed figures — 816 hp against the Renault 5 Turbo 3E's 533 hp — set up a tantalising French duel for the electric hot-hatch crown. ## Next Peugeot E-208: from concept to showroom Peugeot is explicit that the Peugeot E-T16 concept is the ultimate vision of the next Peugeot E-208. Several of its innovations are confirmed for transfer to the production car: the Hypersquare steer-by-wire controller, the new horizontal three-claw lighting and advances in battery thermal management. The next Peugeot E-208 is expected to be revealed in the first half of 2027 and go on sale in the second half of the year. Could the E-T16 itself reach production? Chief executive Alain Favey told journalists at the show he was "completely open" to building it if demand materialises, floating a possible price around 200,000 euros for a limited run far smaller than Renault's equivalent. For now, the Peugeot E-T16 concept remains a dream machine — but as the Paris show proved, it is a dream with unusually solid engineering beneath it.
