Denza to debut in India on November 13 with D9 and Z9 GT

BYD has confirmed that its luxury brand Denza will debut in India on November 13, 2026. The Denza India debut is expected to start with the D9 luxury MPV and the Z9 GT shooting brake, both positioned above the existing BYD range. BYD has confirmed the date, while prices and the retail plan for India have not been announced.

Denza began as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz Group in the 2010s and now operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of BYD. The brand sells all electric and plug in hybrid models in China and in markets across Asia, Europe and South America. The India debut will include the brand's product and retail strategy, according to reports.

Denza India D9 MPV

The D9 MPV is expected to be the first Denza model for India. It is a full size luxury people carrier with three rows of seating and a length of more than five metres. It will compete with the MG M9 and the Toyota Vellfire, along with the Lexus LM and the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, according to CarWale.

The D9 electric version reported for India has a 103 kWh battery pack with a front mounted motor producing 313 hp and 360 Nm. Autocar India puts its WLTP range at 520 km and its DC fast charging support at up to 200 kW. Inside, the second row has captain's chairs with electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage functions. The cabin also has three zone climate control, full leather upholstery and ambient lighting.

Pricing for the D9 is expected to land around Rs 90 lakh ex-showroom, according to Autocar India, with some reports putting the range at Rs 85 lakh to Rs 90 lakh. BYD has not confirmed the price. The D9 is also sold in plug in hybrid form in some markets, with a 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine paired with electric motors, but reports say only the electric version is expected to reach India at first.

Denza India performance model

The Z9 GT is a five door electric shooting brake and is expected to sit at the top of the initial Denza India range. Autocar India puts its expected price at Rs 1.2 crore to Rs 1.5 crore. It has a 122.5 kWh battery pack with a triple motor setup sending a combined 1,156 hp to all four wheels.

The claimed figures for the shooting brake include a 0 to 100 kph time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 270 kph. WLTP range is rated at 600 km. Charging support goes up to 1,500 kW, at which speed the battery takes nine minutes for a 10 to 97 percent charge, according to Autocar India. The car also has a Compass Turn function that can rotate the car from a standstill, and a crab walk function that moves it sideways.

Both models are expected to sit above the Rs 80 lakh mark, which puts Denza India in luxury territory rather than in the mainstream electric market. BYD already sells the Seal, Sealion 7 and other models in India, and Denza will sit above that range. The brand's showrooms are not expected to stand alongside BYD facilities, according to CarWale, so the two brands keep a distance in positioning.

Denza India retail plan

The retail plan for Denza India has yet to be revealed. CarWale reports that BYD will reveal the brand for India on November 13 along with products and a retail strategy, with major tier 1 and tier 2 cities expected in the first wave of touchpoints. Bookings and delivery dates have not been confirmed.

Demand for large luxury MPVs in India has grown, with buyers including film industry users and business users who want chauffeur driven comfort. The D9 enters that space against established names, while the shooting brake gives the brand a performance model to draw attention. What remains unconfirmed is pricing, variant details and the exact timing of sales after the debut. Those details are expected to come with the November 13 announcement. Denza India pricing will be watched closely, because the D9 and Z9 GT sit well above the mainstream electric market. For Denza India, the November 13 event is a brand reveal, not a sales launch, so buyers must wait for booking details.
