Hyundai Pune Plant Inaugurated; 3.2 Lakh Units by 2030

The Hyundai Pune plant is officially open. Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) formally inaugurated its new manufacturing facility at Talegaon, Pune, Maharashtra on October 14, 2026, marking a major milestone as the company celebrates 30 years of operations in India. The AI-enabled, Industry 4.0 facility begins with an annual installed capacity of 1,70,000 vehicles and is backed by a phased investment of Rs 11,000 crore.

The inauguration of the Hyundai Pune plant was officiated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the presence of Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung, Hyundai Motor Company President and CEO Jose Munoz, Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chair Jaehoon Chang, HMIL Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India, and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar. HMIL said the Hyundai Talegaon facility will anchor its next decade of growth in the world's third-largest auto market.

Hyundai Pune plant: capacity roadmap to 2030

The Hyundai Pune plant starts at 1.7 lakh units a year and will be expanded in phases to 2.5 lakh units within two years and 3.2 lakh units by 2030, an increase of nearly 88 per cent. The facility also houses an engine shop capable of producing 1.5 lakh engines annually. Combined with HMIL's two Chennai plants, which together produce 8.24 lakh units, the Hyundai Talegaon facility will take the company's total annual capacity to nearly 11.4 lakh vehicles by 2030.

The site is the former General Motors plant that Hyundai acquired in 2023 and has since transformed into a smart manufacturing hub. Its flexible lines are designed to build multiple models, including internal combustion and hybrid vehicles in the future, while AI-driven analytics, predictive maintenance, digital simulations and augmented-reality training underpin quality and worker safety. Retooling the shuttered GM site into a digital-first factory took under three years.

Hyundai Pune plant to lead Hyundai Venue export drive

The Hyundai Pune plant will manufacture the all-new Hyundai Venue exclusively for export to more than 35 markets, reinforcing India's role as Hyundai's global manufacturing hub. Flexible production systems will allow the plant to add models over time, and HMIL says the facility will support localisation, supplier development and future hybrid manufacturing. The Hyundai Venue export programme is central to the plant's strategy of serving emerging markets from India.

Hyundai 30 years India: exports cross 4 million

The inauguration coincides with Hyundai 30 years India celebrations, during which the company became the first automaker in the country to cross 4 million cumulative passenger vehicle exports, alongside nearly 10 million domestic sales since 1998. Euisun Chung said the milestone demonstrated the global competitiveness of Indian manufacturing, calling India one of Hyundai's most important and strategic markets globally.

HMIL will invest Rs 11,000 crore in phases at the Hyundai Pune plant, with 55 supplier partners already investing nearly Rs 4,600 crore in Maharashtra and the ecosystem generating over 18,000 employment opportunities. The commitment sits within Hyundai Motor Group's broader USD 15.5 billion investment pledge for India through 2032, covering manufacturing, research and development, localisation and future mobility technologies. With capacity approaching one million units in India and three decades of history behind it, the Hyundai Pune plant marks the beginning of the company's next chapter of growth.
