The Department of Posts has run the India Post GDS recruitment for 2026 for 23,757 posts under GDS Online Engagement Schedule II, July 2026. The posts are Branch Postmaster, Assistant Branch Postmaster and Dak Sevak, spread across postal circles in the country. The recruitment is open to candidates who have passed Class 10, and selection rests on Class 10 marks rather than a written examination.

The India Post GDS recruitment should not be read as a fresh application window in October. The one time registration window ran from 31 August to 19 September 2026, and applications with fee payment ran from 2 September to 21 September 2026. The correction window ran on 23 and 24 September 2026. Candidates who missed those dates cannot apply in this schedule, and should wait for a fresh schedule rather than paying any site that claims to reopen the form.

Posts and postal circle vacancies

The Gramin Dak Sevak posts in this schedule cover rural and semi urban post offices. Branch Postmaster heads a branch post office, Assistant Branch Postmaster supports that work, and Dak Sevak handles delivery and related duties. The work is engagement as a Gramin Dak Sevak, not a regular civil service post, and the notification sets out the service conditions for each role.

The postal circle vacancies vary widely. The North Eastern circle has 2,614 posts, Maharashtra has 2,431 posts, Tamil Nadu has 2,118 posts, West Bengal has 1,762 posts and Uttar Pradesh has 1,691 posts. Madhya Pradesh has 1,450 posts, Jharkhand has 1,379 posts, Kerala has 1,373 posts and Odisha has 1,353 posts. At the other end, Delhi has 16 posts and Haryana has 87 posts. Candidates should check the circle wise list in the notification, because the local language requirement changes with the circle and division.

The age limit for the India Post GDS recruitment is 18 to 40 years. Candidates must have passed Class 10 with mathematics and English, must have studied the local language of the circle up to Class 10, and must have basic computer knowledge, knowledge of cycling and adequate means of livelihood. The fee was 100 rupees for candidates who had to pay it, with female, SC, ST, PwBD and transwomen applicants exempt. The initial pay slab is 12,000 to 29,380 rupees for Branch Postmaster and 10,000 to 24,470 rupees for Assistant Branch Postmaster and Dak Sevak.

India Post GDS recruitment merit list and verification

The GDS merit list for this schedule began with the first merit list published on 12 October 2026, as circle wise PDFs on the official GDS online engagement portal. Candidates who are not in the first GDS merit list should watch for later lists for their circle, and should check only the official portal at indiapost.gov.in for updates on this schedule. The India Post GDS recruitment in this schedule covers Gramin Dak Sevak posts across circles, and the India Post GDS recruitment list is published circle by circle. The Gramin Dak Sevak posts include GDS Branch Postmaster posts, and the GDS Branch Postmaster posts are filled from the same merit list as the other posts in the circle. The India Post GDS recruitment timetable for this schedule now rests on verification, and the India Post GDS recruitment process will move to later merit lists where places remain, and the India Post GDS recruitment merit lists for each circle will decide the remaining places.
