New Delhi: The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has reopened the registration window for the IndiaSkills 2026-27 competition until 19 October 2026, following requests from institutions and aspiring participants, an official statement said on Tuesday.
The move follows renewed interest in skill competitions after Team India's performance at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, where the contingent secured the 10th position globally, the ministry's statement said. The contingent also won six silver medals and 20 Medallions for Excellence.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the competitors at his residence on 9 October 2026, celebrating their achievements and underscoring the role of vocational excellence in national development, the statement added. Following that interaction, the ministry received numerous requests from institutions and aspiring participants to reopen registrations for the IndiaSkills 2026-27 competition.
Eligible aspirants who could not register earlier can now complete their applications on the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) by 19 October 2026.
IndiaSkills 2026-27: 63 skills, 4 lakh registrations
The IndiaSkills 2026-27 competition has already received approximately 4 lakh registrations, the ministry said. Organised under the ministry with the National Skill Development Corporation as implementation partner, the IndiaSkills competition covers 63 industry-relevant skill categories across manufacturing, engineering, construction, digital technologies, creative industries and services. The categories span both traditional trades and emerging digital disciplines.
The IndiaSkills competition provides a structured pathway through district or zonal, state, regional and national levels, enabling talented young people to demonstrate their skills, receive expert guidance and progress towards opportunities to represent India at international skill competitions, the statement noted.
The competition's tiered format means aspirants first compete at the district or zonal level before advancing to the state, regional and national stages. National winners earn the chance to train for international contests, putting Indian talent on the same stage as the world's best young professionals.
IndiaSkills 2026-27 and the Shanghai breakthrough
At WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, India's largest-ever contingent of 70 competitors participated across 63 skills. Their performance has brought national attention to the opportunities that skills, specialised training and sustained preparation can create for young Indians, the ministry said. The six silver medals and 20 Medallions for Excellence marked one of India's strongest global showings.
Officials said the reopened IndiaSkills 2026-27 registration window is a direct response to the surge of enthusiasm after the Shanghai result, with training institutions reporting a sharp rise in enquiries from first-time aspirants.
How to register for IndiaSkills 2026-27
The ministry has encouraged state governments, Union Territory administrations, industrial training institutes, polytechnics, colleges, skill training institutions and industry partners to disseminate information about the reopened window and facilitate registrations. The reopened window is open to eligible aspirants who missed the earlier deadline, and all applications must be submitted on the SIDH portal. States and Union Territories have been asked to push the information through ITIs, polytechnics and colleges so that no eligible aspirant misses the window. Aspirants must apply on the Skill India Digital Hub before the 19 October deadline, as no further extension has been announced.
With the extended window, the IndiaSkills 2026-27 competition is expected to draw its largest pool of aspirants yet, building on the momentum of India's best-ever showing at the global finals and offering a national stage for the country's most skilled young talent. For many participants, the competition is a gateway into a national talent pipeline that links grassroots training with global opportunity.
