Isuzu marks 10 years of making vehicles at Sri City

Bengaluru, 27 October 2026: Isuzu Motors India has marked 10 years of vehicle manufacturing at its Isuzu Sri City plant in Andhra Pradesh. The plant was inaugurated in April 2016, and it has grown into a manufacturing base for Isuzu domestic and overseas markets. Isuzu India, a subsidiary of Isuzu Motors Limited of Japan, held an event to mark the milestone, with senior company leaders and state officials in attendance.

How Isuzu Sri City grew over 10 years

The Isuzu Sri City plant works on the monozukuri approach to manufacturing, a Japanese term for making things with care for craft and quality. Vehicles made at the plant are sold in India and exported to markets in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Jordan, and to Asian markets including Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. The Sri City plant has attracted investment of about Rs 1,500 crore, has produced more than one lakh vehicles, and employs around 1,600 people, according to reports of the anniversary.

Isuzu India emerged as India leading exporter of commercial vehicles in fiscal 2024-25, shipping more than 20,000 commercial vehicles during the year, the company said. That export record sits alongside domestic sales of pickups and other vehicles. For Andhra Pradesh, the Isuzu Sri City plant is one of the larger auto investments at Sri City, a planned industrial city near the Tamil Nadu border that hosts makers from several sectors.

What leaders said at Isuzu Sri City event

Naohiro Yamaguchi, President and Representative Director and Chief Executive of Isuzu Motors Limited, Japan, and Shigeru Wakabayashi, Group Chief Executive for the Mobility Group at Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan, were chief guests at the event. They were joined by N Yuvaraj, Secretary for Industries and Commerce in the Andhra Pradesh government, and Ravindra Sanna Reddy, Founder and Managing Director of Sri City, along with other officials and company staff.

Yamaguchi said Isuzu Motors India has maintained consistent profitability since fiscal 2022, while its export business has grown strongly. He said India remains a strategically important market for Isuzu global operations, and that the focus ahead is on strengthening exports while speeding up growth in the domestic market. Rajesh Mittal, Managing Director and President of Isuzu Motors India, welcomed guests at the event. Kenjiro Homma, Chairman of Isuzu Motors India, traced the plant development over the period and spoke about future goals.

What Isuzu Sri City means for exports

Exports give the Sri City plant a role beyond the Indian market. Isuzu exports from Andhra Pradesh are shipped to buyers in the Middle East and South Asia, where Isuzu pickups and commercial vehicles compete with models from other global makers. Keeping Isuzu exports on track for those markets is part of the daily work at the plant. The 10 year mark is a point to measure that work against: a plant that opened in 2016, passed one lakh vehicles in output, and now ships more than 20,000 vehicles a year abroad.

The Isuzu Sri City plant now has a record that future plans will be judged against. The Isuzu Sri City plant opened in 2016, passed one lakh vehicles in output, and ships to markets in the Middle East and Asia. That record gives the plant a base for further growth, if domestic sales and exports both rise.

Sri City Managing Director Ravindra Sanna Reddy said the plant growth reflected Isuzu commitment to manufacturing and the industrial ecosystem built at Sri City. He recalled early talks and the memorandum of understanding signed in 2013. Andhra Pradesh Industries Secretary Yuvaraj congratulated Isuzu on the decade of operations and said the state government would support the company future growth. The next test for the plant will be whether domestic growth and export growth can both rise from the same base in Sri City.
