Mitsubishi Pajero sales begin in Thailand ahead of rollout

Mitsubishi Motors has begun sales of the all new Pajero cross-country SUV in Thailand, the first market in the model's global rollout. The Mitsubishi Pajero is manufactured at the Laem Chabang plant of Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co. Ltd. in Chonburi Province. Australia and Japan will receive shipments ahead of sales beginning in mid-December.

Mitsubishi Motors announced the start of Thai sales on October 23, 2026, through a company release distributed by JCN Newswire. The Mitsubishi Pajero carries forward the name of a model long known for off road use, and the company positions the new version as a flagship cross-country SUV. It combines four wheel drive capability with the comfort and ease of handling of a passenger car, according to the company.

Mitsubishi Pajero design and engineering

The Mitsubishi Pajero is built on a rigid ladder frame. It has the company's Super Select 4WD-II system and Super All Wheel Control, with seven drive modes reported for the Thai model. The Thai version has a 2.4 litre turbo diesel engine producing up to 204 PS and 480 Nm, paired with an eight speed automatic transmission. Reports put the seating layout at seven seats.

The cabin on selected specifications has dual 14.3 inch displays, Yamaha audio and MI-PILOT driver assistance, according to reports from the Thai launch. Features vary by market and trim, so the exact specification for later markets will differ from the Thai version. The company describes the model as a flagship for the brand, positioned among the top cross-country SUVs in the Thai market.

Keisuke Kishiura, president and chief operating officer of Mitsubishi Motors, said Thailand is an important market for the company and a hub for production and exports. He said the company will continue to deliver products from Thai plants to customers around the world. The new model was shown at its world premiere on September 2, 2026, before the Thai start of sales. Paul Tan reported three Thai variants of the Mitsubishi Pajero, GLS, GSR and Super Exceed, all with seven seats. The Laem Chabang plant has long experience in producing ladder frame models, and the company says that experience supports the new model's production.

Mitsubishi Pajero global rollout

From fiscal 2027 onward, Mitsubishi Motors plans to roll out the Mitsubishi Pajero sequentially in approximately 100 countries and regions worldwide. The Middle East and Latin America are among the regions named in the rollout plan. Thailand is the first market, followed by Australia and Japan in mid-December.

The plant sits in an industrial estate in eastern Thailand. It is a production hub for Mitsubishi Motors' global production and export strategy, and the Pajero will be exported from there to markets around the world. The plant's role matters for the rollout because Thai production feeds both the home market and export markets.

The Pajero name has weight in several markets, including Australia, where large SUVs with off road ability sell in volume. The new model will be judged on its price, equipment and reception in those markets once shipments arrive. For now, the confirmed facts are the Thai start of sales, the mid-December start for Australia and Japan, and the wider rollout from fiscal 2027. Mitsubishi Pajero prices for later markets have not been announced, and Thai buyers are first in line while buyers in other markets wait for local announcements.
