New Delhi, 27 October 2026: Tesla India Motors and Energy has reported revenue of Rs 247.31 crore and a net profit of Rs 5.16 crore for fiscal 2026, its first year with vehicle sales in India. The results, drawn from regulatory filings reported on 26 October, show vehicle sales of Rs 214.69 crore, about 87 per cent of total revenue, with services adding Rs 32.40 crore. Revenue rose nearly 12 fold from Rs 20.83 crore in fiscal 2025, when turnover came entirely from services.
How Tesla India reached profit in FY26
Fiscal 2025 net profit was Rs 55.49 lakh, so the move to Rs 5.16 crore in fiscal 2026 is a sharp rise in profit, but from a small base. Tesla India opened its first Tesla showroom in Mumbai in July 2025 and began selling the Tesla Model Y in India after that launch. The Tesla Model Y lineup accounted for the bulk of vehicle sales in fiscal 2026. The profit is small beside the revenue, and it came in a year when costs also rose sharply as the company set up sales and service operations.
Employee expenses reached Rs 43.67 crore in fiscal 2026, rent rose to Rs 30.32 crore, and total expenses were about Rs 240 crore, according to reports of the filings. Cash spending on property, plant and equipment and capital work in progress rose to Rs 62.54 crore, from Rs 1.16 crore a year earlier. Tesla injected about Rs 86 crore into the Indian unit during fiscal 2026, with Tesla International BV putting in Rs 85.91 crore and Tesla Motors Netherlands BV adding Rs 8.6 lakh. Cash at the end of March 2026 stood at Rs 87.82 crore, up from Rs 10.28 crore a year earlier.
What Tesla India registrations show
Vehicle registration data from Vahan shows 346 Tesla registrations in India between September 2025 and March 2026. Registrations then rose to 650 between April and September in fiscal 2027, passing the prior fiscal year total within six months. Tesla registrations on a monthly average rose from around 49 to about 108. The rise is from a small base, and 650 cars in six months is still a small number beside the wider Indian car market, where large makers sell lakhs of cars a year.
The filing figures cover the year to March 2026, while the registration figures run into September 2026. Taken together, they show a business that has moved from services only to car sales, and from a few dozen cars a month to just over 100 a month. Whether that pace can be kept up will depend on showrooms, service capacity, pricing and charging access, all of which cost money to build. The profit in fiscal 2026 does not by itself settle that question.
What comes next for Tesla India
The Tesla India story in fiscal 2026 is still small in scale. The Tesla India business sold cars for the first time, kept costs under the revenue line, and ended the year with cash of Rs 87.82 crore. A second Tesla showroom network, more service staff and wider charging access would all add cost before they add sales, so the next filing will show whether volume rises fast enough to cover that spending.
Tesla India remains an early stage operation in India. It has the Tesla Model Y driving sales, a small registration base, and rising costs tied to expansion. The company ended fiscal 2026 with more cash than a year earlier, after fresh capital from its parent firms. More showrooms and service capacity would be needed to lift volumes well above the current monthly pace. For now, the filings record a first profitable year of car sales, with revenue of Rs 247.31 crore, vehicle sales of Rs 214.69 crore, and net profit of Rs 5.16 crore.
