UP teacher recruitment: 20,382 posts open

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) has announced 20,382 posts in government-aided secondary schools, one of the largest teaching openings the state has advertised in recent years. The UP teacher recruitment drive covers 17,735 trained graduate teacher (TGT) posts, 1,172 high school headmaster posts and 1,475 intermediate school principal posts, and the state government has presented it as part of efforts to create government jobs for young people and add teaching and leadership staff to these schools.

The UPESSC issued three separate advertisements, one for each category, on October 23. Online registration and applications for the TGT posts opened on October 24, 2026. The last date to pay the application fee is November 23, candidates can correct submitted forms until November 26, and the written examination is scheduled for December 23 and 24. One-time registration (OTR) is mandatory, and candidates need to complete it on the commission's website before filling the application form.

TGT posts and subject list

The TGT posts form the largest share of the drive. They cover Hindi, English, Mathematics, Commerce, Sanskrit, Urdu, Social Science, Science, Biology, Home Science and Physical Education. Of the 17,735 posts, 16,193 are in boys' schools and 1,542 are in girls' schools. The notification says the number of vacancies may increase or decrease, and aspirants for these teaching jobs should check the commission's website for updates before applying.

Eligibility conditions differ by subject. For several subjects, candidates need a relevant bachelor's degree with at least 50 per cent marks or a postgraduate degree with at least 45 per cent marks, along with the prescribed teacher-training qualification. Candidates also need to have passed the Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by the Uttar Pradesh government or the central government for the upper-primary level. The minimum age is 21 years as of July 1, 2026, and the notification sets the superannuation age at 62 years. The subject-wise conditions should be read carefully, since the commission prescribes different academic requirements for certain disciplines.

UP teacher recruitment fee and exam pattern

The application fee is Rs 1,000 for general, OBC and EWS candidates, Rs 500 for SC and ST candidates and Rs 300 for persons with disabilities. Selection will be based on a written examination carrying 360 marks. The paper has 120 multiple-choice questions to be answered in two hours: 30 questions on general knowledge and 90 on the chosen subject. Each correct answer carries 3 marks, and 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect or multiple-marked answer. The question paper will be in Hindi and English, except for language subjects. The commission will publish the examination cutoff and candidates' marks on its website after the selection process ends.

UP teacher recruitment: headmaster and principal posts

Registration for the headmaster and principal posts began on October 23, a day before the TGT window opened. The fee for these posts can be paid until November 22, corrections are allowed until November 26 and the examination is set for January 7, 2027. Of the 1,172 headmaster posts, 1,037 are in boys' schools and 135 in girls' schools. These leadership posts are permanent government jobs in aided secondary schools across the state.

Candidates should read the detailed notification and information booklet on the commission's official website to check eligibility before applying.
