Volvo EX90 India Launch: EX90 & ES90 EVs Arrive Oct 12

New Delhi — The Volvo EX90 India launch headlines what is shaping up as a luxury EV month, with the Swedish carmaker confirming that its flagship electric SUV, the Volvo EX90, and its flagship electric sedan, the Volvo ES90, will arrive in India on October 12, according to Autocar India. The pair will sit above the EX30 and EC40 in Volvo's Indian range.

The Volvo EX90 India launch marks two milestones for the brand in the country. The EX90 becomes its flagship electric SUV here, while the ES90 signals Volvo India's return to the luxury sedan space after the S90 was discontinued in June 2025. Autocar India expects the EX90 to rival the Mercedes-Benz EQS and the Kia EV9, with the Volvo ES90 likely to take on the BMW i5.

Volvo EX90 India launch: what is confirmed

A confirmed date is not the same as a confirmed spec sheet. Volvo has not announced India prices or variants for the October launch. Autocar India lists expected prices of ₹1.40 crore for the EX90 and ₹1.00 crore for the ES90, while ZigWheels lists ₹1.20 crore and ₹1.10 crore — treat both sets as unofficial estimates. The carmaker is expected to announce battery, powertrain, range and pricing on October 12 itself, according to autoX.

Other open questions matter to buyers. It is also unconfirmed whether the cars arrive as fully imported units or are locally assembled — a decision that drives the final price. No delivery timeline has appeared in the launch coverage reviewed so far, and the India equipment list will only be announced at the Volvo EX90 India launch.

Volvo EX90 India specifications: the global numbers

The figures below are global-spec numbers reported by Autocar India, since Volvo has not confirmed which battery and motor options India will get. Both cars ride on Volvo's SPA2 platform with 800-volt architecture. Battery options span 92 kWh single-motor (333 hp) and 106 kWh twin-motor (456 hp) setups, plus a 680 hp Performance version. Claimed WLTP range runs from 565 km to 608 km for the EX90, while the Volvo ES90 stretches from 664 km to 696 km. Both support DC fast charging at up to 350 kW, taking the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes.

Equipment on global versions includes a 14.5-inch touchscreen, 9-inch driver display, 13.2-inch head-up display, 360-degree camera, panoramic roof, four-zone climate, vehicle-to-load and 5G over-the-air updates. The EX90 carries five-star ratings from Euro NCAP and ANCAP; the ES90 has not yet been crash-tested by an NCAP agency. Boot space is rated at up to 384 litres with all rows up plus a 45-litre frunk for the seven-seat SUV, and 424 litres plus a 27-litre frunk for the sedan.

Volvo EX90 India rivals and the price question

On paper, the ES90's headline 696 km WLTP range sits well ahead of the BMW i5 M60 xDrive's 516 km, while the EX90's 608 km edges past the Kia EV9 GT Line's 561 km. But the real test is the India price, which Volvo will reveal at the Volvo EX90 India launch. The EV9 GT Line is listed at ₹1.30 crore and the i5 M60 xDrive at ₹1.195 crore ex-showroom on CarWale, Team-BHP and CarDekho as of September. Every luxury EV here is fully imported, and premium imports have shown steep depreciation in used listings, so warranty terms deserve attention.

October is shaping up as a luxury EV month rather than a mass-market one, and the Volvo EX90 India launch is its headline act. The affordable launches already happened in August, when the MG Hector Tomahawk EV arrived at ₹19.49 lakh and the Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq at ₹19.45 lakh, according to Autocar India. Listing sites have tagged the Tata Safari EV and the VinFast VF3 for an October launch date, but neither has an official one. Buyers should track the Volvo EX90 India launch for the confirmed figures.

Five things to check on launch day: which battery India gets and whether the range is the WLTP figure or a locally certified one; the ex-showroom price and whether the cars are imported or assembled locally; battery warranty terms, including what transfers to a second owner; which driver-assistance and comfort features make the India spec list; and service and charging support in your city.
